I used to work at an oil terminal where we took in the colonial pipeline. Colonial was a part of my life for 10 years. The amount of product that came through that line is unimaginable. The fact that it’s down is going to cause some major problems. I just hope they don’t hit the Harbor Pipeline too… that would be even worse. Hopefully they figure this shit out and fix this shit. Trump needs to come back ASAP. This entire country is turning into a giant joke.

Screw it. Let's hope the Harbor Pipeline goes down, too. It just helps to expose the bullshit.
Get your gas cans filled up now, folks. It's gonna be a long summer.
Btw, how hard would it really be to just reset the networks at Colonial Pipeline. I'm not too familiar on exactly how the ransomware works.
Does it just hijack computers themselves, or does it hijack the whole network and any computers connected to it? I'm having a hard time wrapping my head around how just one ransomware packet can down a WHOLE FREAKING PIPELINE with MULTIPLE networks attached to it. Makes no sense to me.
Can one of you brainy, coder types explain this?
If a company doesn't have a good IT security team, it can be a clusterfuck. Worst case scenario is they have no backups, no incident response plan, poor network monitoring, no updating core systems to patch vulnerabilities. Research what happened with the Target hack in 2013. One HVAC vendor's laptop ended up with hackers pivoting into point of sale cash registers. Until a full post mortem is done, we won't know what really happened here. There have a been a lot of enterprise vulnerabilities lately. Solar Winds, Codecov, MS Exchange. Could have been anything.
I’m not sore, however the entire system is run by computers. They remotely open valves and operate pumps from miles and miles away on some instances. I’d imagine if they affected that end of the system, the entire line could be completely locked down until the systems were cleared of any issues.
