I've used recovery software on many Hard Disk Drives. Provided that the hardware and electronics are working and provided that the data hasn't been overwritten by saving something in its place, then recovery is simple.
The military have equipment that can often recover data even if it's been overwritten!
I scrolled down and saw the post about codemonkey saying that the image shows it was recovered by the forensic IT team and it's to show us that they have it all.
not tech trained, have built two computers, file deletion does not erase files, simply removes means to access them. Think a highway, hit delete, all on and off ramps removed, still there, but not reachable without know-how.
Government organisations, at least in the UK use software like Blancco to wipe disks before they send them off for destruction. It basically just overwrites the disk several times. Probably similar software that Hillary got her cronies to wipe her server with.
Obviously in this case they wouldn't be able to do that, as they need to at least present a working machine, I guess they panicked and just deleted the files and didn't have time to do it properly.
To truly render something unretrievable you pretty much need to wipe the drive like with a cloth or something. Then smash it with a hammer.
Or else an IT nerd with enough time and patience can find it.

I wonder if they actually do have the deleted directory or were able to recover it, but put that out anyway to feed the deep state's panic?
