"Dual polarity" is a torture/indoctrination/manipulation technique that is designed to mentally break people.

First, you are subjected to very bad news. This depresses you, makes you angry, or whatever. Then, you are given good news, which makes you happy. Then, back to bad news, then good news, ad infinitum.

The idea is that eventually you will be suseptible to indoctrination and/or you will break and lose your free will.

This could be the "up" part of the "down/up/down/up/down" cycle.

This works particularly well in political circles, where good news for one side is simulataneously bad news for the other, and vice versa.

It is one technique for brainwashing.
