Funny thing about viruses in general, and zoonotic ones in particular - being deadly is a shitty reproductive strategy in the age of hygiene and nutrition. They all mutate towards being benign over time.

So you better be hyper deadly and hyper virulent right out of the gate! Which they never really are anyways.
