You are 100% correct. In places where there is winter, the people who had the wherewithal to plan ahead and store food and fuel survived and those who didn't died off. In places where it's always hot and the plants never die off didn't evolve much past the stone age because they didn't have to.

I implore you to look up the average IQ of people in tropical regions vs the people of temperate regions. The data correlates with this theory. https://www.worlddata.info/iq-by-country.php
