I'm a bit concerned that no one these days has stock certificates, the majority of us just use brokerage apps and probably don't even technically own the shares, I'm wondering if that will be a factor in any type of large system shakeup.

Yes that would be a mess because some shares are rehypothecated who knows how many times. Trying to untangle that will be a giant mess

I looked into it. You can get them printed but the cost is so high it is prohibitive for anything other than nostalgia
