The dam is the biggest in the whole world, beating up the Itaipu dam built in Brazil. The creation was ordered by Mao himself and the building was a giant piece of propaganda in tandem with the Olympics to present China as a superpower and world player. If it falls down, China would be ripped apart and thoroughly humiliated.
