Recency bias. Im in SE Michigan and we have frost/freeze warnings near memorial weekend in 1 of 10 years. At my cabin in Antrim County its more like 1 in 3. Detroits latest snowfall is May 23rd with 5 inches although that was about 140 years ago. I never plant my gardens until memorial weekend due to the possibility of a freeze.

The average last freeze for Detroit is May 2nd. The average last freeze in Antrim (in NW lower Michigan near Traverse City about 180 miles NNW of Detroit) is May 30th.
