Just a note for the younger set:

Besides the fact that a lot of political leaders use or used body doubles (Saddam Hussein for one) for obvious reasons - can't be in two places at once, or don't want the real one to get shot at, etc, there used to be a thriving market in "body doubles for hire". It's like the dumbest late 80s/early 90s thing:

Say you're Joe Car Dealer in some town. You're opening a new dealership and you want it to be great. You could call up an agency and hire a lookalike to attend your event. So you could have "Bill Clinton" show up or "Madonna" would be there. People knew it wasn't them but it was just for fun. If a person really looked like a politician/celebrity and could dress and act the part, they could make a lot of money doing these events. I'm sure that the closer the resemblance, the more "in demand" you would be.

It was kind of weird and "celebrity-obsessive". Maybe as some of the better lookalikes got older - and still had a strong resemblance to the celebrity - they could have a new position.
