While this might be interesting from a security point of view, such arms as these are not always for nefarious purposes. I was watching a program called "Narco Wars" on the National Geographic channel the other day, and this episode had to do with a Mexican drug gang called "Knights Templar"... very dangerous and murderous people. The good folks of that area got fed up with the gang's lawlessness and the Federal Police's inability to do anything, so they formed their own militia and eventually eradicated the gang. Score one for the good guys.
I kept wondering as I watched that (1) where did all those arms come from, and (2) who paid for them, AND for the other equipment they had. It was a pretty well outfitted militia (trucks, radios, AR-15s, and group discipline and cohesiveness) for a bunch of farmers and peasants. I still don't know the answers to those questions, but it was very instructive about what a determined and armed bunch of civilians can do when pushed to the brink.
