As I understand it, there were protesters in Guatemala at the airport waiting for her. If she wanted to avoid the optics of such a greeting, maybe turning around and switching planes would be her only option, aside from outright cancelling.

That's what I was thinking. There was intel of trouble ahead and instead of circling Gitmo, er, Guatemala they returned to Andrews to sort things out.
