I have this bizarre sense that people who abuse kids got that way by being abused themselves (STILL NO EXCUSE, QUICK TRIAL, DEATH PENALTY), that nobody who hadn't been through it would ever dream of doing something so horrific and soul-decaying as that to an innocent child. I wonder how accurate that is.
1 in 6 males is sexually abused in childhood by a person of greater power and strength. This is not consensual sexual activity with playmates. Of those abused, 1 in 10 grow up to abuse other children. They often will harm pets and smaller children. They also, are groomed for their roles and given power over younger children by those higher in authority. Abusers average more than 100 victims in a lifetime.
Those who grow up to become abusers often adopt a hyper-masculine approach in life. Think drill instructor or district scout leader. No one easy to spot style of male is to blame. Younger abusers are used for first contact with targeted children. It buffers the top guys in the power pyramid. There are many layers.
9 in 10 don't abuse as adults but suffer self doubt and shame typically for life. This is the healthy response to being abused. Christ was my protector.
I think that is true; not all of them perhaps, but enough to perpetuate this evil sick practice. I also think that the women often go on to marry or have relationships with abusers, never suspecting that their partner is one of THEM until it happens.
