Rental companies sold portions of their fleets off last year due to plummeting rentals, just to stay afloat…. Now with chip shortages for new cars.. they are having issues replacing cars sold last year. Thus… gouge the customer = pocket more

AND the fact that rental companies are prioritizing dealerships for their vehicles leaves precious little for the routine on-the-go traveler.

And the Covid hype didn't help. Companies didn't have any assurances that people would be renting cars in 2021 so they didn't replace the 1/3 of their fleet that they sold. I was told cars in Anchorage are renting for $500/day - IF you can get one at all.
