Congress did in fact need a way to collect some money to run the government. However when they put this in place they either forgot to apply the basic principles of the Constitution and founding fathers as they crafted it or more likely it was done this way on purpose to fuck us over.

See the bill of rights and most of the Constitution is meant to RESTRAIN Government. They can not infringe on your right to have weapons. They can not silence you or stop you from practicing your religion.

Read the 16th amendment. The problem isn't that they allowed for taxation. The problem is they put NO RESTRICTIONS ON IT. I've seen newspaper articles from that period where they lay out the new tax system. The top tax rate was like 2% for insanely rich people. Most it was like 1/2% - 1%... Its just one percent. We will never need more. The article highlighted the fact that it would never need to go higher. So if that is true why didn't they install a cap. Say 5%? 3%? Hell 10%? Its good enough for the Mormons.

The problem here isn't taxation. Taxation is needed to pay for government services. The problem here is a government with unlimited power. The Constitution does not restrain them in any way. Thus they just keep raising it and raising it... it almost never goes down.

So what we need is an Amendment that sets a hard limit.. and/or defines what they may and may not tax. It also needs to stipulate that ALL taxes should be applied to every single person evenly. Taxing wealth... taxing the rich is unfair.

It would also solve the problem. If you set NO limit at all and just made an amendment that said everyone gets taxed at the same rate no matter what. Guess what... when all those poor people making 30k a year get that big fat 30% yanked out of their paychecks... politicians who raise taxes would get slaughtered in every election.

So you set that hard limit crazy high say 35%. That's 1/3rd. No one needs more than that. Then you make the hard fast rule that everyone regardless on income etc pays the same rate. It would self correct with a quickness. 2-3 election cycles. The rules would apply to state too. NY has to tax everyone at the same rate and make the max limit a combined limit. Meaning local, state, and fed combined max out at 35%. 4-6 years tops and all this shit would be fixed.

If you then fix the problems of governments printing money and borrowing too much money...

Bottom line its not about taxes. Its about unlimited government power. The founding fathers understood the most important thing... keep government controlled and small.

We gave them that power. We need to take it away.
