V was awesome. The special effects are dated, but the two miniseries were frigging rad!
The TV series that followed (the 1985 one, not that one that aired in 2012 or so) was all but canceled halfway through the first season ... you can really tell when they lost money to make the last batch of episodes :-) ... many of the main characters were written off and the reuse of special effects got really predictable.
The show has a ton of redpills ... both figuratively and literally ... some of the red pills are a red dust that kills the aliens :-).
You didn't miss much. It seemed almost red pilled at first ... you had aliens arriving and promising free healthcare and all sorts of other goodies in exchange for help. Meanwhile, their plan is to steal all of the resources on our planet and freeze/store people for food. The people that remain become slaves! Seems a bit familiar I would say.
Once some liberals were all pissed off by that narrative (same narrative kind of existed in the 80s version), they switched gears and made the show more woke ... it was canceled not long after.
The thing that was amazing about the original was the alien arrival. There was absolutely nothing like it before or since ... the reactions of people in media, government, science, religion, etc were all dead on! The newer one basically skipped all of that ... that was really disappointing.
If you ever get bored and need something to watch that should make you forget about life for a few hours, dig up those old V miniseries (V and V : The Final Battle) ... again, if you can get over the special effects and B-grade acting, the story is great ... somewhat cheesy, but still awesome! :-)

I loved the earlier version - I B was in high school!!! I didn’t realize they even made another one.
I remember the 2012 version, but never watched it.

Thanks! My husband and I may have to find it. We like B movies.
