For my job, from time to time, I have to refer to the US State Department Travel Advisories for travel to countries outside the US. This can be for disease or disorder, major weather events, etc. and what you need to consider when in country. There are four levels. First is basically 'have fun' two is exercise increased caution, three is reconsider travel and four is do not travel. Pre-CV, these were updated on an as needed basis. There was a massive update yesterday. - about 180 countries and the rest were today.
Now, it has been awhile since I have been on the site because no one was going anywhere; it is entirely plausible they are just doing mass CV updates. What caught my attention was the levels each country was assigned. Place like Iran, NK, etc are always Level 4. South American/African countries can be level 2/3. What is amazing is how many western countries are now at Level 3 & 4. UK, Germany, Italy, France are all level 3 for CV but in additional are citing terrorism concerns. IRELAND & SWEDEN are level 4 - but no terrorism cited, CV only. Israel has both CV/terrorism - but they are at level 2. (China is level 3, but they cite the PRC's arbitrary enforcement of local laws. It seems that only Hong Kong has CV problems.) I have never seen this. WTH?
Search for US State Department Travel Advisories and you'll find it.
Interesting Latvia is LVL 4: Do not travel.
Little to nothing going on in the Baltic states my frens. Couldn't be in a safer place unless you're an antifa goon caught walking down the wrong alley in Riga after midnight.
Come to Latvia! The weather is fine, the food and folks sublime, and it's perfect mushroom hunting time!
My first vacation trip cancelled last year was to Riga.
