The reality is probably more fun than people realize. He is probably a ghost. A non-existent agent that allows the DIA to drop the information they have with a quote-unquote valid source.
Even if the Chinese knew that it wasn't a real agent, they would need to request them back or lose face. If they didn't ask for him, nations would consider that deniability. If they do ask for him, they have a reason to get mad at the DIA for not turning over their agent.
Regardless, it is a win for the Patriots as now the information can be released in an official capacity and viewed as a valid source while keeping MI, space force, and other military assets protected from excessive scrutiny.
