The chinks would have to get really close to an aircraft carrier to launch a strike missile with a nuclear warhead or thermobaric penetrator warhead. The reason our carriers have a huge "screen" around them which covers hundreds of miles in all directions, including undersea, is to protect the carrier against such an attack.
Of course, if all of the "if's" are considered, and somehow, someway, an attack could be launched against a carrier, yes, it could be damaged or sunk. Consider, though, that this would be a huge mistake by the chinamen. Even a feckless coward lickspittle like Xiden would be forced to act against china if such an unlikely event took place. Especially if there were other aggressive, war-like, actions taking place.
The chinks have a lot of military force and it is easy to see their propaganda and think of them as ten feet tall. We should never do what we did at first with the japs and underestimate them. However, the USA first of all has God on our side and secondly has an offensive strength which is beyond comprehension by almost everyone.
You think Americans rolled up their sleeves and had blood in their eyes after the japs attacked us? You ain't seen nothing yet.
Full Disclosure: I am a Former Marine; I hate ALL asians, japs, gooks, slopes, dinks, plus dot-heads, pajeets, street-shitters and all of the other shit-stain races which bedevil us incessantly.
Thank you for your service and compelling comment...
You are very welcome. Thank you for posting these interesting threads. Semper Fi!
Yes. There's no such thing as an unsinkable ship.
Ain't a horse that can't be rode. Ain't a rider that can't be throwed...
My guess is: Yes.
You may have the most powerful Military in the world but that does not make it immune from attack. For instance, remember when the UK nuked the US, twice?
Could they? Yes. But it,would cost them an army to take down one. Carriers are basically floating doomsday blenders. Get too close, and all your going to see is a whirlwind of red.
This is old data... 2013. That's life time in tech. Things have changed. Yes they can work. Their A2AD model is setting things up to keep the Navy out of the SCS. Will it always work? No. But they are a credible risk. And with each passing year they pull ahead in missile tech and close the gap in sensors. This is no the side of the bell curve for victory
Thank you for your thoughtful comment...
I agree. I think the USA has lots of secret toys. Bit conventionally, couldn't a massive sustained barrage of 100's of missiles continuously launched at the whole battle group overwhelm the defenses? If it did come to this, the chicoms would send almost everything they could just to sink a CV.
