Because about 5 months is their regular work year and has been for a long time. They are a month past their original adjournment date now. Possibly after they didn't get a raise for 15 years they decided to be organized, get done efficiently, and spend less time hanging around Phoenix. Anyone who could would be leaving for two months. Here's a site where you can find the calenders for most state legislatures and see how they stack up. Any arm twisting in whatever state is going to be influenced by the calender.
