Lumbar puncture and steroids is just standard neuro procedure for anything. I was misdiagnosed with MS and saw 4 neurologists over the years. I had a lumbar puncture that I did not need and wound up needing a blood patch. Steroids are HORRIBLE and can make you sicker. I had repeat brain MRIs every 6 months and moron neurologists threw Gabapentin, migraine meds, and steroids at me.
The whole time I had Lyme disease and Bartonella.
Just a warning for anyone who thinks a neurologist is going to accurately treat you for anything. They’re not.
Oh, they treated you accurately. They got your insurance, saw that you were insured, and you became an economic widget.

There’s a reason they refer to Neurology as, “Diagnose and Adios,” when you’re doing your clinical rotations.
Not all neurologists are like that. But the ones that aren’t are few and far between.
