New York Attorney General Letitia James announced on Saturday that Johnson & Johnson has agreed to halt sales of opioids nationwide in a $230 million settlement with New York state. As part of the settlement, the company will resolve opioids-related claims and allocate payments over nine years. It could also pay $30 million more in the first year if the state executive chamber signs into law new legislation creating an opioid settlement fund, according to the press release from James’ office.
“The opioid epidemic has wreaked havoc on countless communities across New York state and the rest of the nation, leaving millions still addicted to dangerous and deadly opioids,” James said in a statement.
“Johnson & Johnson helped fuel this fire, but today they’re committing to leaving the opioid business — not only in New York, but across the entire country,” she said.

What about people who are genuinely dealing with severe chronic pain? These people suffer because the DEA is breathing down the necks of every doctor with a license and making threats. In turn, the doctors fear any liability.
What do you think people will turn to? Black market heroin? Don't think that desperation won't leave that on the table. The DEA needs to be eradicated. They have been a constant thorn in the side of freedom and liberty, telling people that they're too fucking dumb to exercise personal responsibility while ruining countless lives in the process.
Severe chronic pain does not need opioids to correct. Its a trap. Few people medically actually need opioids and there are many great alternatives.
You describe addiction. No pain elief is worth the pain of addiction.
And what would those great alternatives be?
I have heard good things about the likes of marijuana for various therapies.
