I don't think the Astros did anything out of line. I mean, in my mind they were scum for doing what they did and it would make sense that Joe's skanky bitch with a degree a 14 year old retard could earn in 18 months would cheer them on. However, every damn team in the league does what Houston did (except the Pirates ... they won't spend a penny more on anything involving baseball ... the $100 worth of cameras you'd need to steal signs is too expensive for the professional welfare recipient that owns that team). Nothing is sacred anymore.
What's funny is that MLB didn't do anything to rectify the problem aside from punishing a couple of scapegoats. The problem seemed to vanish from the media once people whispered that Boston was doing it too (MLB will defend BOS and NYY regardless of what they do). That should tell you that they're completely aware of the problem and that nothing will be done about it since it would expose all sorts of other problems should it be investigated.
MLB did the same frigging "wrap a towel around our head until the problem goes away since not being able to see it means that it is not happening" (i.e. the Ravenous Bugblatter Beast of Traal strategy) nonsense in the 1990s when they made it seem normal that everyone was suddenly capable of hitting HRs. They cheered it on while anyone with a functioning braincell could see that the players were roided up beyond recognition.
They turned a blind eye to the problem since they were rolling in loot from the boost in TV ratings and attendance. They also needed a shot of roids (in the form of cash) after bungling that strike in 1994 like a pack of scared pansies. If MLB were serious about baseball, they would have told the MLBPA to fuck off and would have started over. Instead, they chose to ignore the new riod fad in MLB and pretended that everything was fine up until Barry Bonds "broke" that career HR record (MLB hates Bonds ... they hate him for always speaking his mind ... still doesn't excuse his cheating, but they really didn't care when McGwire and Sosa beat the season HR record).
