Interesting stuff coming out about Playboy mansion. If you look at the character James Bond, he is a "playboy" and he connected heavily to Playboy. James Bond was create by Ian Fleming and the character first appeared in a story published in Playboy Magazine.

Ian Lancaster Fleming (28 May 1908 – 12 August 1964) was a British writer, journalist and naval intelligence officer who is best known for his James Bond series of spy novels. Fleming came from a wealthy family connected to the merchant bank Robert Fleming & Co., and his father was the Member of Parliament (MP) for Henley from 1910 until his death on the Western Front in 1917.

Fleming wrote his first Bond novel, Casino Royale, in 1952.

In 1942 Fleming attended an Anglo-American intelligence summit in Jamaica and, despite the constant heavy rain during his visit, he decided to live on the island once the war was over.[64] His friend Ivar Bryce helped find a plot of land in Saint Mary Parish where, in 1945, Fleming had a house built, which he named Goldeneye.[65] The name of the house and estate where he wrote his novels has many possible sources. Fleming himself mentioned both his wartime Operation Goldeneye[66] and Carson McCullers' 1941 novel Reflections in a Golden Eye, which described the use of British naval bases in the Caribbean by the American navy.

He started writing the book at Goldeneye on 17 February 1952, gaining inspiration from his own experiences and imagination.

For the record though, two early dates are usually identified by those who observe the long association between Bond and Playboy. The first significant date is 1953, the year that coincidentally marked both the publication of Ian Fleming’s first Bond novel ‘Casino Royale’ in Britain, and Hefner’s men’s lifestyle magazine Playboy in America. The second date is March 1960, when Playboy printed the new short story ‘The Hildebrand Rarity’, marking Bond’s first appearance in the magazine.

Playboy and James Bond started the same year. What a coincidence.

Since that 1960 publication, Bond short stories and serials became a regular occurrence in Playboy. In fact, a serialized version of On Her Majesty’s Secret Service appeared in the magazine in 1963. The most recent Bond fiction to appear in the magazine was in 1999, with Raymond Benson’s original piece, “A Midsummer Night’s Doom.” The story is about James Bond’s visit with Hugh Hefner (yes, you read that correctly).

Playboy was their original "blackmail" operation. In the 90s they offshored it to Disney's Castaway Cay, Epstein Island and the surrounding islands and Fiji. But Playboy was the original for it.

Manson is one of the most notorious killers of the 20th century. He was convicted of ordering the brutal murders of seven people in 1969, including actress Sharon Tate.

"I didn't really get to get into it very much in the episode, but, you know, [Hefner] was close with Sharon Tate. So it's really weird that he held up Charles Manson on this sort of pedestal and was studying him because Manson had just killed his friend," Dean continues. "It was really bizarre and chilling."

Sondra Theodore, who dated Hefner in the late '70s and early '80s, told Dean the Playboy founder "would study" the book Helter Skelter about the Manson Family murders. It was written by Vincent T. Bugliosi Jr. who prosecuted Manson and his followers involved in the Los Angeles killing spree.
