Yeah it was when he was CFO of GD Serle. FDA wouldn’t approve because research was showing it caused brain tumors and grand male seizures in the primates it was tested on. Rumsfeld got into the Regan admin and got Regan to appoint the CEO of GD Serle to the FDA board that was blocking aspartame and that guy ended up being the tie breaking vote for its approval
