To be fair, Catholics are not the only ones who do this:
Today most āmainlineā denominations, including Catholics, Baptists, Episcopalians, Methodists, Presbyterians and others allow for the āimpositionā (as called in Catholic and Episcopalian prayer books) of ashes during an Ash Wednesday service.
Ahem..... I was in a Baptist church for many years and they never did that even before the split. I found out that there are 2 types of Baptist Churches. One went with the teaching that the gifts of The Spirit stopped when the Apostles died and the other went with the Holy Spirit still inspires and guides us today....I went with the 2nd one!

youre prob right, ive just never heard or seen any other religion do it in my lifetime
