Thing is, you don't need an entire fleet of stealth fighters. You need an elite core of extremely high tech (and also extremely costly) fighters to go in and smash key installations (radar, communications, missile defenses, etc.) to pave the way for a massive number of non-stealth fighters (F18s, etc.). What we should be doing is developing a new non-stealth fighter instead of throwing billions of dollars at literal holes in the sky that still can't function correctly (F35, KC46, etc.). Almost makes you wonder if all that money's purposely being thrown away and not all of it is going where they say it's going, and maybe is ending up in some people's back pockets...
