$10 seems about average for soybeans. I think corn was near $7.25 in about 2008 when the ethanol crap got going. I don’t raise either so I’m not up to date on prices but neither seems unusual. The prices fluctuate a lot based on world wide supply and demand. I’m too lazy right now to look it up and post a link.
ETA: My uncle has been farming for 60 years and I’ve never heard him mention anything like that. The closest I can think of is when it is damaged due to weather or something and insurance pays you.
