The feds have paid farmers not to plant to artificially raise prices for a long time. They supposedly do it in an effort to keep farmers in business for national security. This is nothing new. There are a lot of subsidies in growing corn. They keep a lot of farmers in business with subsidies and the big ones can make a lot of money. The USDA needs its budget severely cut, especially since the majority of it goes to food stamps.
I haven’t heard about being paid to destroy crops but I’ve never raised corn or known anyone that has. I don’t believe the part about prices being $0.35 lower because you won’t sell to the feds. That’s not how this works.
