I see. Doesn’t the Bible say that God will bless those who bless Israel and curse those who curse Israel? Or is that only referring to the true people of God, rather than Israel as a whole?

Not Israel, the Jews. Many conflicting statements. When Damascus is in pieces the Jews will have to pay a price. But who specifically is referred to is beyond my biblical knowledge.
