These people are diabolical, but that doesn't mean they are smart.

They know it is over for them if things keep going like they are. They are willing to kill off the world so long as it means they get to live through it. Even if it means their standard of living sliding into ruin at least they are still alive and running free.

Our job it they move forward with this plan is to make sure not a damned one of them survives.
