What time period? Up until the 1920s child mortality was pretty high. Our longer life expectancy is largely a result of children surviving better.

Last I heard, they haven't confirmed any of this. Ground penetrating radar is flawed. They need to dig it up, and do proper investigations of the bones/bodies to determine this.
