Yup. No funeral notices. No obituary. A young Air Force member would have a huge funeral. Not just a "private gathering" with ashes thrown into the wind.

Not always. My Nam' vet uncle's will states he is to be cremated and scattered at a specific place.
I bet he'll have more than just a few close friends when he passes though.
He is still living.
I can say my father is buried in a "normal" rural gy and his stone reflects his service, but that was paid/requested by the family. Not the govt.
The Navy did send someone to present the flag however at the funeral. No taps though... Navy literary said the location was too remote and service too soon to accommodate sending taps sailors.
