I imagine his competitors felt similar to how we feel now, but they dealt with it for decades. And even though his titles were stripped, I don't think they were awarded to the other cyclists.

The cheating was so rampant because it was required to keep up with Armstrong.

I recall an article from back during that time, that stated for one of the races the top 16 slots were doing the thing.
