Pitch shifting may not work because the tuning of all the other notes are a scaling from the center note, not just a linear translation. That is you don't just subtract 8 hz from everything which I think is what pitch shifting does. What matters is ratios among the notes.

One thing people tend to miss about metal is that when it comes to complexity and range the only other music that can match it, is classical..................
Give it a century and it will still be around in it's original form, much like classical is now..
Try harmonic/melodic metal if you want to hear music with a lot of harmonies in it...
