True. But they died from dysentary and/or starvation, not gas. They died because the allied bombers stopped the trains that were bringing food and medicine.
Though food was short, I'll never forget mom told me: Girl you will never starve because I taught you 100 things you can make with some flour and water...and if you can find a potato, an apple, berries, you can eat. The women in the camps got together to prepare anything they could. There were German women farmers nearby who sent their boys to walk along the camp fence and would slip in an onion or a potato.
Do you really think Nazi's would have trainloads of food brought in to feed people they were killing anyway? The only thing in the trains were more people.
