Good Question I'm still pondering. He was indoctrinated by his folks, NYC suburbia types grew up reading Mother Jones cause it's what the proto-hipsters did. Ignorance of self, I think is a big factor. They really don't understand the emotional (not rational) power of group-think and the need to "belong".
