Good observation. I think cognitive dissonance differs in how the person's mind treats the information. I see the quote as more about an objective analysis of opposing ideas, without personal bias. Dissonance arises if the ideas are treated more subjectively. It's an unwillingness for the mind to accept new information because it threatens established beliefs, without fully investigating the new info. I could be wrong, and frequently am. 🙂
