OK so I have an update on this, I was just reading online and found this:

It still doesn't answer my questions, but I guess it helps my suspicions a little bit. I wanted to ask everyone here - someone in the comments section of this article states that the inventor of the Freedom Phone is part of "the tribe." Can anyone confirm or put to bed this claim?
