Idk about this article... Personally wouldn't ask a break pad salesman to explain to me how to raise and butcher a cow... Why should I take some personal investment bankers opinion over the opinion of historical scholars? Also who the fuck starts an article with "the first big lie"... Lol
Believe what ya want... Would advise ya NOT to take this guy's word... He sounds like he has more of a vendetta than wanting to inform... But whatda I know...I'm just the consumer
So your defending the south who gave us Andersonville? Now I understand fully the attitude of most of the southern states in that day believed in state sovereignty and fought under those pretenses. But it seems both you and this manipulator (I say that because he’s using the tactic of picking and choosing and not presenting the whole context of a very complex time and circumstance and trying to simplify it into racism) are saying that the tyrants of the north were worse than that of the south? I think Jefferson said it best concerning slavery “ It’s like holding a wolf by the ears.” And yet after the civil war, Lincoln did emancipate the slaves. Was he a part of that or did he fight it because he was a bigot. What do you have to say to the fact that after the civil war, came the opportunity and rise of prosperity and quality of life to the emancipated slave, the peasant and the common man this world has ever seen. This mans quotes from Lincoln all come before the time of a forging through the fire and tribulation of war. Lincoln’s words inscribed upon his memorial are far more profound and largely outweigh those you and this man are presenting. It is dishonest and manipulative to try and present such a complex issue into a couple paragraphs that try and boil it down to “he’s a racist!.” Who do you work for peddling this propaganda? It’s seems to me all the big gubment and the usurping of the constitution came after he was shot.
For one I don’t worship Lincoln, I applaud his resolve and ability to rise to one of the darkest hours in our history and preserve this country from being permanently ripped at the seam. The meeting at the Appomattox court house is one of the most honorable meetings in our countries history. My argument is not in the dispute of his statements and them being mildly racist, it is the disingenuous presentation that his motives were evil and racist and that’s all it was about. My argument is in the fact that I believe it was in the best interest for the prosperity of the people of this country that the union was preserved and the idea of ownership of human beings was ended.(maybe just a byproduct, but still a result none the less) He did that correct? Enlighten me on the views of Jefferson Davis his opponent. Enlighten me on how a divided Congress would be able to resolve that deep of a dividing issue. Enlighten me on how declaring martial law in a civil war is tyranny and not a necessary tool. Enlighten me on your speculation of what a better world this would be if the south had succeeded? Enlighten me on how the democrat party that was just defeated started hiding behind masks and terrorizing their political opponents were the good guys? I’m not saying their wasn’t corruption in the north and evil men in the north I’m saying the results of the decisions and actions of Abraham Lincoln led to a better and more prosperous outcome.
