My understanding of the attitude of the Uighur peoples is entirely anecdotal. What I understand is, they just wanted to be left alone. The Uighurs wanted no incursions from the larger Muslim Umma (community) and they most certainly wanted no violations of their way of life by the CCP.
Though I can never be a Muslim (I have no tolerance whatever for the Sharia), I certainly understand their desire to just live and work and socialize in their own way, in peace. Why is this so hard for despots to grasp? (Because they are despots? Ya think?)
