If it's loading now I'm guessing the stop watch is apple's way of showing you it's taking a long time and things are progressing or taking too much longer than normal. Sounds like your internet speeds were kinda slow and apple displays this as a way to show it's loading but taking a long time. I'm not positive though, I've never had an iPhone.
