Anyone remember a 1960s sci-fi film called "The Time Machine"? Rod Taylor and Yvette Mimeux... she was an Eloi, a beautiful but stupid race raised to be food for the evil Morlocks underground. In one scene an Eloi girl falls into the river and is being swept away and no one helps her, they just sit there watching her drown, and the Rod Taylor character (a visitor from Victorian England) jumps in to save her.

That's what I'm reminded of seeing all these people watching other folks being swept away, not lifting a finger to help, but by GOD they sure do have time to get a video of it on their phones!

WTF is wrong with these people?
