The whole thing about Falun Gong being a Chinese cult thing was CCP propaganda being spread to suppress the opposing party to the CCP. If you read into the history and do bit of research, you'll find out it wasn't a cult but a group of people practicing qi-gong (similar to TaiChi), and then they managed to get some people to say some nutty things to make it look like a cult.
