The cycles are the level of refinement of the test. Trouble is at too many cycles the test will give positive results for almost anything. Kari Mullis, inventor of the test and major Fauci critic before COVID, said the PCR test should not be used for diagnosis precisely because too many cycles makes it meaningless.

Mullis died in October 2019.
