I have friends with kids in army and navy. Army guy flys Chinooks. Both Navy guys high level specialized machinist dudes. When i mention to their parent, him retired Navy, that military is our final hope for 2020 election they look at u like ur crazy. All u hear is their transfers, service paying for 2nd degree, and when they plan to get out etc etc. I personally think many r n there for the pay, the training, the career and the benefits. Are there any that r patriots first and career guys second? Idk.
Some people teach out of passion, others teach for the Healthcare, summers off, and regular holidays/vacations.
Same with military. Some.do it for free surgeries (trans, breast implants, etc), some to help pay for college, some because they feel they have no way out, some because they want to get a grip on their life and escape things, some because their father and grandfather served and they feel duty, some because of things like 9/11 (Pat Tillman), etc.
