There's also this study that says conservatives can guess liberal values but liberals can't guess conservative values. Former libtard. Can confirm.
My BFF of 47 years is a wonderful, loving woman who's the sweetest person I've ever known. She's also liberal. After a couple very heated political arguments in the first year of our relationship, we agreed that we just wouldn't talk politics.
Exactly
Also consistent of many Republicans and conservatives is that we respect the right to voice differing opinions and views and don't let them tarnish friendships.
I have a number of liberal friends. I have one that is quite outspoken in her views. We have a mutual friend and one day, first friend was rambling on about something political. Later, the mutual friend quietly said to me 'do you think X realizes that I am Republican?' I just paused and answered ' oh, my funny little Democratic friend.' She burst out laughing.
The reason is honestly painfully simple; A lot of people on the left seem to be obsessed with the idea of being "on the right side of history", while the right is concerned with being on the right side of your community.
It creates this interesting dynamic where a good portion of left wing people can only look at conservatives as some kind of historical enemy with whom you share a fucking feud. Conservatives look at it differently; if you are part of the community and aren't actively try to subvert or destroy it, it is necessary for you to defend them and try to get along with them. Being a subversive is the cardinal sin for a conservative. Being regressive is the cardinal sin for a progressive.
We do not care if history judges us harshly, for those in history do not live when we do. They look at us from an ivory tower of moral development, much like we look at the past century from an ivory tower of moral development. No doubt, many conservative AND leftists ideals will be considered to have been on the wrong side of history. But why give a shit. You don't know who is going to write this history, you don't know if you have reason to fucking like them. There is no need for some kind of absurd moral drive where you try to read the social trends throughout history and base your beliefs on wanting to be defensible to people 90 years down the line.
And ultimately, you might be in the contemporary equivalent civil rights movement, to be lauded for centuries to come, or you might be the contemporary french revolution; being lauded before taking a massive L and somehow resurrecting the monarchy through sheer malicious incompetence. Just do right to your community.
Oh, I see it completely in the reverse. I think conservatives think what was wrong yesterday is still wrong today and will be wrong tomorrow. Our morals are our morals whether the community agrees or not. I think liberals only care about whatever the popular issue is at the time and will gain them the most brownie points. If they were back in times of slavery when it was wrong to treat black people as anything but a slave, they would all own slaves and shame you for talking or be-friending any black people. I don't think they care at all what side of history they are on, so long as they are on the "moral high ground" today.
I used to have Democrat friends now they're a little conservatve
I believe in live and let live - I have my views and you are entitled to yours. Also, I like people for many things besides party affiliation - and love my family. I have family that stopped speaking to me because they are libtards- I would not cut out family members based on stance on gun rights etc.
Republicans tend toward a peaceful ‘live and let live’ philosophy whereas the typical lib is an emotionally driven activist.
Did the poll the friends of the republicans? Or are they all green peace?
My church in the UK has found out that I am anti vaxx, some of them practically called me an liar, one of the church officials tried entrap me into saying my memory was faulty...
I don't think the Lord Jesus Christ abides in many houses of worship these days, but I could be wrong and pray that I am.
Most of them have been ensnared by psychology and its devices, why does every vicars wife seem to have a certificate in counseling? So it starts.
