Somehow, I feel that doing this for an international match (Olympics?) where the entire world is watching makes it 1000x worse.

It absolutely is worse on International matches because you represent the country and not just a team in a domestic league.

International soccer leagues are doing this, but I think mostly in Europe.

I think it's to galvanize the leftists around the world.
