Partially correct, the Spanish Explorers of 1700s recorded large wild fires in Southern California. The native tribes that lived in SoCal used to use controlled fires around their villages in the foothills to clear out space so their villages wouldn't burn. Fire season is part of the natural ecosystem here. We need better forest management in California.
