6 do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. 7 And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
8 Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things. 9 What you have learned[a] and received and heard and seen in me—practice these things, and the God of peace will be with you.
Note the three tiered approach. We might as well flip the sequence.
When you are feeling down, why is that? Do those reasons conform to what is written in verse 8? It creates a mindset of gratefulness, love, peace and joy.
How about practicing christian ethics as is mentioned in vers 9? It creates a mindset of love.
Note then, (verse 6) that besides supplications, thanksgiving is important. Focusing on what you are grateful for will reinforce a different mindset, one of joy.
What will happen to you while doing these things? Verse 9. The peace of God will guard your heart AND your mind.
Secure for yourself that peace first. And your path will become clear.
