I think McCarthy probably is doing everything he can to avoid justifying non-Trump Republicans splitting into a new party and ensuring conservatives lose every election for the next two decades.

i think if you lose the likes of McConnell and Cheney, you would pull in from the independents and those that normally don't vote to more than make up for the losses. A realignment is happening due to Trump.
